Illyana Rasputin is a non-player character in X-Men Legends.

History

Early Life

Illyana is the younger sister of Colossus (Piotr Rasputin) and Mikhail Rasputin.. She grew up on a farm in Siberia with her brother, Colossus. Her early life appears to be similar to her Earth-616 counterpart. Much like in that universe, Piotr’s powers manifested when an out-of-control tractor threatened to crush his sister. Piotr sprung into action to save her; at that moment, his mutant powers manifested for the first time, and he turned into his organic steel form. He was able to destroy the tractor, saving his sister in the process. It is unknown how their brother, Mikhail Rasputin, factored into their early lives.

X-Men Legends

Illness

At some point, Illyana's mind was taken to the Astral Plane by Shadow King. This presented to her family as a strange illness that put her into a coma. Upon hearing about his sister's ailments, Colossus left the X-Men to care for her.

Muir Island

Colossus informed the X-Men of Illyana's strange condition after they had helped him save the reactor in the Boshnoy Nuclear Power Plant. The X-Men suggested to take Illyana to Muir Island so that Moira MacTaggart and Forge could take care of her, and Colossus readily agreed.

On Muir Island, Moira began to investigate Illyana's illness while Forge worked on a life support system to keep her alive. Moira couldn’t find anything physically wrong with Illyana and said that there was no reason for her to be in a coma. Illyana’s body was beginning to shut down, which concerned Colossus, but Moira assured him that Forge was likely putting the finishing touches on the life support system at that moment. Although Forge was having difficulties with the Muir Island computer, Magma was able to access the core and make the necessary repairs to allow Forge to complete the life support system for Illyana, saving her life. Moira decided that it would be best to send Illyana to Professor Xavier at the X-Mansion, and Colossus decided to join them.

The Astral Plane

At the X-Mansion, the X-Men were soon briefed for Professor Xavier’s journey into the Astral Plane with Jean Grey and Emma Frost. During this briefing, Moira and Xavier announced that they had discovered the cause of Illyana’s coma: her mind no longer inhabited her body and was being held on the Astral Plane. This confused Colossus, as Illyana had no psychic powers; Xavier agreed, and hoped that their investigation into the Astral Plane would yield some answers.

Emma Frost and Jean Grey were able to rescue Illyana from the Astral Plane, saving her life, but lost Professor Xavier to the Shadow King in the process. Xavier's mind became trapped in the Astral Plane in a similar manner to Illyana. The X-Men had little time to strategize over this situation, and Colossus didn’t get an opportunity to reunite with his sister; Magneto arrived at the mansion and demanded to speak with Xavier. During this meeting, Sentinels attacked the mansion, capturing Magneto.

Reunion with Colossus

After fending off the Sentinels, Colossus was at last able to reunite with the conscious Illyana. He also introduced her to Magma. Illyana complained about having to remain on bedrest in the subbasement and said that she wished to feel the sun. She joked about the over-protectiveness of her brother but was happy that she was able to see him again.

While speaking to Colossus and Magma, Illyana was able to explain some of what she experienced in the Astral Plane. She described how Shadow King gloated about using her as bait for Professor Xavier. He had also said that with Xavier out of the way, another individual would be able to carry out their plan. She was unsure of who this individual was, but knew it was someone in the real world.

Trivia

• Because Illyana and Mikhail do not appear in a game together, their relationship is siblings is not officially confirmed, and can only be implied through their shared relationship with Colossus.
• This version of Illyana shows no indication of being a mutant, though it's possible that she hasn't manifested her abilities yet.
• This version of Illyana also has not been to Limbo and has not gained her magical abilities.
• It's not known when Illyana was taken to the Astral Plane, but it can be assumed that it was after the start of the game. Colossus is present in the X-Jet following Allison's rescue in New York, but he is absent from the team after to take care of Illyana. Being an attentive brother, Colossus would've likely left as soon as he knew that Illyana was ill.
